Admission Process for Canadian Institutions




1. When are the intakes for Canada?

January and September. For Universities, the primary intake: September (Fall Semester). Very limited number of universities/institutions allow: January (Winter Semester).

Colleges, there are usually 3 intakes in a year: September; January and May.

2. When can I start my admission procedure?

Atleast 6 months before the intake.

3. Is TOEFL/IELTS compulsory for admission?

Yes, it is highly recommended that you appear for either TOEFL/IELTS.

4. Which documents I need to submit for admission?

·        Graduation Results 10th and 12th

·        Biodata

·        IELTS/ TOEFL Marksheet

·        SOP and Transcripts.

5. Do I need to submit true copies?

Yes. True copy has to be done by Public Notary.

6. How many hours can I work while studying?

20 hours per week and full time during vacation.

7. Are there scholarships / loans available to international students?

Education in Canada is highly subsidised and very cost effective as compared to other countries. There are very few scholarships at the undergraduate level, although some universities do offer full scholarships and partial entrance scholarships that are primarily based on your academic performance. There are many more opportunities for scholarships at the graduate (M.Engineering/M.Sc.) and post-graduate (Ph.D.) level. Apart from these Indian students can also avail of scholarships offered by Indian education trusts & bodies.

 

8. Is there an application fee for the institutions in Canada?

Yes, most universities and colleges have an application fee that can vary from CDN$40 - $200. These fees must be submitted in the form of a Canadian Dollar draft or paid via a credit card along with the application.

9. How is the ranking of the Canadian institutes done?

There is no official or recognized ranking for educational institutions in Canada. Most educational institutions in Canada are publicly funded and provide quality education with worldwide recognition and acceptance.

Visa Procedure

All International students are required to obtain a Study Permit (Student Visa) before going to Canada for studies.

The Canadian High Commission uses the services of VFS (Visa Application Centres) in nine cities across India. Visa applications are accepted at the VFS centres and then forwarded to the Canadian High Commission for processing.

Documents Required for Student Visa

  1. Completed Student Application Form,
  2. Completed Supplementary Questionnaire for students and postdoctoral researchers,
  3. Official letter of acceptance from Canadian university, college or Technical Institute,
  4. Certificate of Acceptance from the province of Quebec (Only if you plan to study in province of Quebec),
  5. TOEFL/IELTS scores if applicable,
  6. Passport, valid for at least one year from the planned date of entry to Canada, plus valid passports of any accompanying dependants,
  7. Bank Draft for the applicable visa processing fees,
  8. Proof of Financial Support.

Please note that all the documents submitted, must be either photocopies notarized by a notary public.

When to Apply

It is strongly recommended that you apply at least two months before the start of your studies. A Study Permit will not be issued to you if you do not have a Valid Letter of Acceptance from an institution, when a final decision is made on your application. You can usually expect an Initial Response in 10 working days from the date of application. You should apply as early as possible once you receive your acceptance letter. Please note that medical examinations are usually required for students from India and Nepal. This adds a minimum of two weeks to the processing of your application.

4. What should be the size of photographs?

Size of the photograph: 2 inches x 1.5 to 2 inches in size.

It should be against white background.

5. What are the other photo specifications?

It should be in colour against white background.

Scanned and Digital photographs are Not Accepted.

6. Where should I submit my visa file?

Once the whole file is ready, you need to submit the file at Visa Facilitation Service (VFS). The Canadian High Commission uses the services of VFS Visa Application Centres in nine cities across India.

7. Do I have to submit whole file in Original?

No. the whole file will have to be submitted in Photocopy with True Copy done by Public Notary.

8. Is medical exam compulsory?

Yes. It’s compulsory for all students from India.

9. Can I go to any doctor for my medicals?

No. You are required to do your medicals only from the list of panel doctors provided by Canadian High Commission.

10. How much financial support am I required to show?

You must demonstrate that you will have enough money during your stay in Canada to pay for tuition fees and living expenses for yourself and any accompanying dependents, and return transportation for both yourself and your dependents.

11. Do all applicants have to face the visa interview?

An interview with a Canadian Visa Officer may be required. If an interview is required, these will be scheduled in advance at a time convenient to applicants.

12. Is IELTS compulsory for admission and visa?

Yes.

13. Which funds are not accepted for visa purpose?

Gold, Property and Vehicle.

14. Is sponsorship from USA, U.K. acceptable?

Yes.

15. Can I take spouse and child as dependent?

Yes. You must provide proof that you will be able to support them
