How universities calculate your GPA

255396

GPA:Is an average of the courses you took per semester.

Cumulative GPA (CGPA):It is the average of all the courses you took to gain a degree. This includes failed courses. If you failed in any subject then the failed marks and the marks you obtained after passing the subject will be counted in your Cumulative GPA.

An Example:
Say you had 5 subjects to obtain your degree.

Of these 5 subjects you cleared 4 subjects in first attempt and cleared 1 subject in second attempt

Say your scores were as follows:
Ist subject - 60 marks
2nd  subject - 60 marks
3rd subject - 60 marks
4th subject - 60 marks
5th subject (first attempt) - 0 marks
5th subject (Second Attempt) - 60 marks
Now your CGPA will be
Ist subject + 2nd subject + 3rd subject + 4th subject + 5th subject (first attempt) +5th subject (Second Attempt) Divided by number of attempts i.e. 6

Or CGPA= 60+60+60+60+0+60/6 =50
Or 50 %
Universities consider CGPA of the last school or university  you attended while giving admissions.
Below is the table where you can see how universities convert you CGPA percentage to 4 point scale

Grade GPA Percentage
A+ 4.0 90-100
A 4.0 85-89
A- 3.7 80-84
B+ 3.3 77-79
B 3.0 73-76
B- 2.7 70-72
C+ 2.3 67-69
C 2.0 63-66
C- 1.7 60-62
D+ 1.3 57-59

Note this is  rough calculation.
