American Universities may be grouped under:

1.State or Public Universities.

2.Private Universities.

3. For Profit Universities.

The discussion below is about State Universities. Private universities have only one fees structure for both residents and non- residents.

Your instruction fees at a State University is broken into tuition and fees.

State students pay Resident Tuition which is substantially lower than paid by the out of state students.

Students from other states in the U.S and International students pay Non-Resident Tuition which is much higher.

Virtually all public universities and colleges in the United States have a two-tier fee structure — resident and non-resident—whereby Non-Residents (visa holders) of the United States pay for the actual cost of instruction while residents of a particular state only pay for part of it and the rest is paid by a taxpayer subsidy.

If you receive a Non-Resident Tuition Waiver, you receive the same benefit as a state resident and pay a much reduced tuition fee thanks to the generosity of the Idaho taxpayer. This is a privilege and an honor! You are still responsible for paying the Resident Fees.

Every Public University has a pool of Non Resident Tuition Waivers (NRTW). If you seek you may be awarded one.

Application will have to be made by you and there is a deadline for it.

Please seek more information from the university where you are applying.

What are the NRTW award criteria?

All Non-Resident Tuition Waivers are awarded solely on academic merit based on cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average).

If you are a Graduate Student NRTW will be normally awarded if you are offered Teaching Assistantship or Research Assistantship.
