Policy Regarding Foreign Universities operations in India
To safeguard the interest of stake holders, All India Council for Technical Education has revised its existing Regulations for entry and operation of Foreign Universities in India imparting Technical Education.
Under the revised regulations, Foreign Universities / Institutions already offering Technical Programmes in India at Diploma, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral level directly or through collaborative arrangements with Indian Institutions shall have to seek approval from AICTE within 6 months from the date of issuance of notification or before commencement of ensuing academic session whichever is earlier.
Application forms with detailed guidelines can be downloaded from AICTE website www.aicte.ernet.in.
Under the regulations, failure to seek approval of AICTE shall attract stringent penal action including action under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and other relevant Indian Laws.
Attractive advertisements luring students in the name of foreign degrees are being issued by many institutions. Students desirous of joining any technical programme of any Foreign University / Institution operating in India either directly or in collaboration with an Indian Institution must confirm the status of its approval by AICTE as joining unapproved programmes can have serious consequences in terms of eligibility for employment, higher studies etc.
AICTE has opened Student Facilitation Counters at the Headquarters and Regional Offices located at Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Chandigarh, Kanpur, Kolkata and Mumbai, where all required information in respect of approved technical programmes/courses is available.
