GPA Conversion Part 2

Some schools drop credits, certain courses, or use a 4.3 scale, (which may boost your GPA if you received any A+s). These differences are not taken into account because it would be almost impossible to accurately determine how each school will adjust your GPA. Most people’s GPAs will rise slightly as a result of these adjustments. Keep this in mind when using the charts.

The following table converts percentages to GPA. Every school uses a different method, so there might be a slight margin of error.

If your marks are on a percentage scale and you are trying to see where you ‘fit’ on a particular chart, check out the school’s web site to see how they will convert your GPA.

When applying to a school do not convert your grades. Send them in original form. Every school has it’s own method of conversion it is best that they do it themselves.

And here is the Advice given by Case Western Reserve University

Q. My country does not use your standard for GPA, how can I convert it to receive fair consideration by the faculty?

A. If your country uses a percentage system please convert that score for the GPA. To convert your percentage score to a GPA using this formula:

 4 x <your percent score> / 85 = GPA

It is still better to put in the percentage than leave the GPA blank.

  3. My son’s school follows the 4.5 scale. We are doing college applications and scholarship applications. Some applications specifically ask for the conversion to the 4.0 scale.

    Can you tell me what a 2.93(4.5 scale) would be on a 4.0 scale

    Thank you

  4. The conversion here from 9.0->4.0 is incorrect. The bottom of the 9.0 scale is a C-, and so should be 1.7 or so. An A is 8.0; 9.0 is an A+. A more appropriate conversion would be:
    8.0, 9.0=4.0
    7.0 = 3.7
    6.0=3.3
    5.0=3.0
    4.0=2.7
    3.0=2.3
    2.0=2.0
    1.0=1.7
